Chrism Mass

Chrism Mass

Tuesday of Holy Week

Tuesday, April 16, 2019 | Green Bay

Tuesday evening of Holy Week Bishop David Ricken, joined by the priests and deacons of the diocese and, because of limited seating, invited designated representatives from each parish, gather at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral for the celebration of the Chrism Mass. This Mass manifests the unity of the priests and bishop. At the Mass the bishop blesses and consecrates three Oils that will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the diocese for the year. The three are: the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick, and the Sacred Chrism.

To simplify the distribution process, all Diocesan parishes/institutions will automatically be mailed Mass tickets for their two delegates, deacons, deacon wives, and pastoral leaders/coordinators and spouses. Concelebrating priests do not need Mass tickets.

Dinner will follow at the Riverside Ballroom. Tickets are required.

"The readings of our Mass speak of God's 'anointed ones': the suffering Servant of Isaiah, King David, and Jesus our Lord. All three have this in common: the anointing that they receive is meant in turn to anoint God's faithful people, whose servants they are; they are anointed for the poor, for prisoners, for the oppressed…"
