CRS Rice Bowl Program Kicks-off with Lent, Aids Local and Global Community

Known for its characteristic "rice bowl," millions of Catholics have used this initiative to respond to the struggles of people around the world who cannot meet their basic needs. Through 42 years of Lenten prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, Catholics have contributed $250 million to change lives in impoverished and vulnerable communities.

Bishop Ricken to Lead Pilgrimage to Ireland in September 2017

Diocese of Green Bay LogoGREEN BAY, Wis. (February 7, 2017) -- The Compass, diocesan newspaper for the Diocese of Green Bay, will sponsor a 12-day pilgrimage to Ireland Sept. 24 to Oct. 5. Leading the pilgrimage to Ireland are Bishop David Ricken, Julianne Stanz, director of the diocesan Department of Evangelization (Stanz, an Ireland native, will not attend the entire 12-day pilgrimage), Amy Kawula from The Compass and Juan Landa from Mater Dei Tours.

Statement on Executive Order Addressing the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program

Diocese of Green Bay LogoGREEN BAY, Wis. (Jan. 30, 2017) -- On January 27, 2017, President Donald J. Trump issued an Executive Order addressing the U.S. refugee admissions program and migration to the United States, generally. The executive order virtually shuts down the refugee admissions program for 120 days, reduces the number of refugees to be admitted to the United States this year from 110,000 to 50,000 individuals, and indefinitely suspends the resettlement of Syrian refugees. In addition, it prioritizes religious minorities suffering from religious persecution, thereby deprioritizing all other persons fleeing persecution; calls for a temporary bar on admission to the United States from a number of countries of particular concern (all Muslim majority); and imposes a yet-to-be determined new vetting process for all persons seeking entry to the United States (USCCB, 1/27/17).

Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay will be the principal celebrant at Christmas Eve Mass at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay at 9 p.m. WFRV (Ch. 5) will again provide the live broadcast of the Christmas Eve Mass. Local hospitals, nursing homes and other ministries serving the homebound are encouraged to invite individuals to tune into this broadcast.
