Diocesan All-School Mass packs the Resch Center on October 14

GREEN BAY, Wis. (Oct. 15, 2010) – Nearly 10,000 students and faculty from every Catholic school in the Diocese of Green Bay participated in an all-school Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Resch Center.

Bishop David Ricken celebrated the Mass with Auxiliary Bishop Robert Morneau and Bishop Emeritus Robert Banks and many priests serving in the diocese. Several deacons also participated.

Catechism course

Diocesan staff begin monthly, three-year study of Adult Catechism

Beginning in October, diocesan employees will spend one hour each month studying the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults (USCCA). Employees are being asked to study one catechism chapter each month and then gather for one-hour sessions to discuss that chapter. Twelve staff members have volunteered to serve as course facilitators, said Dr. Joe Bound, director of the Department of Education.

New offering

'God's Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage' to supplement marriage preparation in diocese

wedding-at-canaStarting in September, the Family and Married Life Office of the Diocese of Green Bay will offer engaged couples an optional day focused entirely on the Sacrament, Theology, and Intimacy of marriage as God planned it to be.

This one-day workshop was developed from the book "Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology of the Body." The book is based on 129 of Pope John Paul II's general audience speeches.

New vocation director

Fr. Daniel Schuster will visit parishes and work with the Diocese's seminarians

Schuster-Fr-DanFr. Daniel Schuster, on August 1, became the new vocation director for the Diocese of Green Bay. As vocation director, Fr. Schuster will travel to parishes throughout the diocese where he will preach and invite and motivate the people who have a call from God.

He also will work with the seminarians in formation and live at Xavier House in De Pere, which has openings for young men in college, working or serving as volunteers, who live in community while discerning the possibility of the priesthood.

Thousands of Catholics celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary August 15 at the annual spiritual pilgrimage at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion.

Bishop Robert J. Banks of the Diocese of Green Bay presided at the special outdoor Mass and rosary procession at the Shrine, near Champion, northeast of Green Bay.
