Motion to prevent document destruction denied in Merryfield civil suit

GREEN BAY, Wis. (March 3, 2011) -- Judge Nancy Krueger today denied the "Motion to Prevent Document Destruction" that was filed on November 15, 2010, in Outagamie Circuit Court by attorneys for Troy and Todd Merryfield.

Attorneys for the Diocese of Green Bay filed a brief in opposition to the plaintiffs’ motion on November 23, 2010.

"I am in full agreement and accord with Archbishop Listecki's recent statement which he released on behalf of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference, of which I am a member. His statement was prepared and released with my full knowledge and consent, as well as that of the other bishops in the State of Wisconsin."

Small Lenten faith-sharing groups across Diocese will explore mysteries of faith

Longing-for-HolySmall groups in about 50 parishes in the Diocese of Green Bay will take part in "Longing for the Holy," a five-week Lenten faith-sharing program produced by Renew International. Participants in "Longing for the Holy" will explore the central mysteries of Catholicism -- the Incarnation, the Eucharist, and the Paschal Mystery.

Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help™ Chapel exteriorEWTN will broadcast the historic December 8, 2010, Mass and press conference in which Bishop David Ricken announced that he had officially approved the Marian apparitions at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help™ at Champion.

The press conference will air on EWTN at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5. The Mass will follow at 3:30 p.m.

Diocese responds to Gannett News Service stories in Appleton, Green Bay papers

GREEN BAY, Wis. (Jan. 13, 2011) -- A recent article published by the Gannett News Service, originally appearing in the Appleton Post-Crescent and Green Bay Press-Gazette, implied that the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay might be contemplating a bankruptcy filing. In response to that unfounded speculation, the Diocese issued this statement:

"The Diocese of Green Bay is currently in a solid operating financial position and is not planning to file for bankruptcy protection. In fact, the Diocese of Green Bay has no liability judgments against it."
