Bishop Ricken to host Pentecost day of renewal May 22 at Cathedral

Martin-Ralph"A Call to Holiness: Pentecost Day of Renewal" will be conducted Saturday, May 22, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Bishop David L. Ricken will host the Diocesan-wide day of renewal, which will include Mass, praise, talks, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, prayer and Reconciliation.

Presenter will be Ralph Martin, president of Renewal Ministries, an organization devoted to Catholic renewal and evangelization.

Bishop Ricken meets JOSHUA, ESTHER Catholic core members

Bishop commends good work, urges ecumenical involvement, expresses concerns

bishop_rickenBishop David L. Ricken on March 24 met with about 60 Catholic core team members of JOSHUA and ESTHER.

Bishop Ricken commended the good works of both groups, particularly in the areas of advocating for the homeless and for immigrants. He also encouraged Catholic attendees to continue collaborating with people of other faiths on matters of common interest.

In a 45-minute presentation, Bishop Ricken and other diocesan leaders talked about the importance and the benefits of interfaith collaboration. Specifically, Bishop Ricken stated his hope that Catholics will continue to partner with members of JOSHUA and ESTHER.

Bishop calls meeting with JOSHUA, ESTHER

Local organizations' good works praised; concerns remain with national foundation

Last Fall, Bishop David L. Ricken became aware of some inconsistencies between the principles of the Gamaliel Foundation and the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Gamaliel Foundation’s affiliate organization in Wisconsin is WISDOM; two local affiliates of WISDOM are JOSHUA in Green Bay and ESTHER in the Fox Cities. About 18 Catholic parishes belong to either JOSHUA or ESTHER.

On Feb. 19, Bishop Ricken sent a letter inviting Catholic leaders of JOSHUA and ESTHER to meet with him, in person, to affirm the good works of JOSHUA and ESTHER and to discuss the situation. His letter is as follows.

timone davis, D.Min., to Speak in March 2015 - ONE DAY ONLY!

team-days-graphic"The Sacrament of Living" will be the theme for the 2015 TEAM Day of Study and Reflection for parish staff and volunteers.

This year's TEAM Day will focus on the Prayer and Spirituality area from Bishop Ricken's pastoral reflection, "Teach My People to Pray."

timone-davistimone davis, D.Min., is a cradle Catholic who was a "pewster" until she discovered that the uselessness of the Church was because she wasn't giving anything of herself. After committing to do something, her life changed. Her first ministry was with the RCIA, where she not only welcomed others into the Church, but also revitalized her own spirituality.

timone and her husband Orlando launched PEACE centered WHOLENESS after she worked in Young Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

She is the formation director for the Augustus Tolton Pastoral Ministry Program at Catholic Theological Union and Associate Director for the Continuing Education and Enrichment Programs for the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University of Louisiana.

"The Sacrament of Living" will cover these topics:

  • Holy, Holy, Holy ... Me
  • Creating and Using the Desert for Purpose
  • The LORD's Prayer Revisited
