Bishop Ricken to Celebrate Vespers with Norbertine Community, Rededicate Statue

Diocese-Green-Bay-LogoGREEN BAY, Wis. (Dec. 14, 2016) -- Bishop David L. Ricken will welcome Abbot Neville and the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey to St. Francis Xavier Cathedral for the celebration of Vespers for the 4th Sunday of Advent and Blessing of the Statue of St. Norbert on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at 4:00 p.m.

Vespers, also called Evening Prayer, is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. It is the prayer of the Church regularly celebrated by the members of the clergy and religious communities, but also by any member of the laity as a prayer of praise and thanksgiving.

Statue Carved in Germany

The statue of St. Norbert from the Norbertine Community has been located in the narthex of the Cathedral since 2015 after being moved from St. Norbert Abbey and will be dedicated with a new plate which will describe the life and work of St. Norbert. The statue was carved by of ALBL Oberammergau Woodcarvings of Oberammergau, Germany.

All are welcome to join Bishop Ricken, Abbot Neville, and the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey in this special celebration. A light reception will be served in the Bishop Wycislo Center following Vespers.
