Catholic Foundation for Diocese Awards $5.3 Million in Grants and Distributions

Catholic Foundation logoGREEN BAY, Wis. (June 21, 2018) -- The Catholic Foundation has awarded $5.3 million supporting Catholic ministries and causes in the areas of education, service, and ministry. Through more than 130 grants, individuals and organizations are supported in inspiring our youth, forming church leaders, and meeting the needs of those struggling in our communities.

For more than 20 years, the Catholic Foundation has been impacting lives within the 16 counties of northeastern Wisconsin which make up the Diocese of Green Bay. During this time, the Foundation has grown to more than $90 million in managed assets and has distributed nearly $40 million to support Catholic schools, parishes and other Catholic organizations.

Grants Help Schools, Catholic Charities, Homeless Shelter

"Through tuition assistance grants the Catholic Foundation is able to help make a Catholic school a reality for many children. We support those who are homeless or in need of a helping hand through grants that benefit the critical work of Catholic Charities and St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter in Green Bay. Catholic Foundation grants provide this support and so much more," said Josh Diedrich, Executive Director for the Catholic Foundation. "All of this happens because of the families who want to make a difference through endowment giving. For this I am grateful."

Grants and distributions are awarded based on an application process. The next opportunity to submit applications will be in October 2018. For more information about the grants and distributions, please visit or call 920-272-8181.

Youth Retreat, Hispanic Cursillo, Camp Receive Grants

Following are examples of grants recently funded by the Catholic Foundation:

Kyrios Retreat -- St. Raphael the Archangel Parish in Oshkosh was awarded an $800 Catholic Foundation grant to help high school students encounter and grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus. In 2017, three retreats were held, and as a result, their weekly youth ministry program nearly doubled in attendance. The depth of conversion in students is evident in their prayer lives, commitment to serving others, and desire to grow together as a community.

Movimiento de Cursillos Hispano de la Diocesis of Green Bay -- Cursillo is an international Catholic movement for men and women. Its purpose is to bring people into a closer relationship with Jesus through a three-day retreat experience. Through continued weekly study with spiritual direction and group meetings, participants have the opportunity for leadership growth and relationship building. This $1,250 Catholic Foundation grant was used to send three people to the 65th National Cursillo in San Antonio, Texas.

Camp Tekakwitha Camperships -- Camperships were designed to help kids experience Catholic summer camp on beautiful Loon Lake near Shawano. "We here at Camp believe that finances should never be a barrier between a camper experiencing camp and one who is not able to," shared Rebecca Sievers, Camp Director. "Through our $2,000 Catholic Foundation grant, we are helping kids experience a life-changing week away at camp."
