Compass Pilgrimage Will Include Knock and 2012 Eucharistic Congress in Dublin
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Aug. 18, 2011) -- The Compass will sponsor a pilgrimage to Ireland June 15-26, 2012. The pilgrims will spend one day at the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, June 10-17, 2012, in Dublin.
The pilgrimage will include the shrine at Knock, St. Kevin’s monastery at Glendalough, Duiske Cistercian Abbey, the "Black Abbey," the Rock of Cashel, the Blarney Castle, St. Mary's Cathedral in Killarney, the "Ring of Kerry," Bunratty Folk Park, the Cliffs of Moher, Our Lady Assumed into Heaven Cathedral in Galway, Kylemore Abbey, Connemara, Clifden, Croagh Patrick, Ballintubber Abbey, Clonmacnoise, Athlone, and Newgrange.
Leaders from Ireland
Pilgrimage leaders will be two natives of Ireland now living in Northeastern Wisconsin:
Norbertine Fr. David McElroy, O.Praem, director of prayer and gifts at St. Norbert Abbey, De Pere. Fr. McElroy was born in Dublin, and has bachelor's and master's degrees from University College, Dublin. He came to the United States in 1996 and joined the Norbertines. He has served at St. Willebrord and St. Philip the Apostle Parish in Green Bay, and is sacramental minister at Holy Trinity Parish in Casco. He will celebrate Mass daily for the pilgrims.
Julianne Donlon-Stanz, director of adult faith formation for the Diocese of Green Bay. Donlon-Stanz was born in County Wicklow and has bachelor's and master's degrees from Mater Dei Institute of Education in Dublin. She came to the United States in 2001 and in 2007 began serving in the Diocese. She also teaches at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family in Manitowoc.
