Annual Diocesan Fund-raiser Tops $4.75 Million -- 95 Percent of This Year's Goal
GREEN BAY, Wis. (April 12, 2012) -- By giving to the annual Bishop's Appeal Catholics help the Diocese's mission in Elias Piña attend to the physical and spiritual needs of these Dominican Republic communities.
The Bishop's Appeal has received more than $4.75 million in gifts -- 95 percent of this year's $5 million goal.
The Bishop's Appeal helps fund the diaconate's five-year program of education and ministry formation, which supports and challenges them on their way to becoming ordained servants of God.
Essential to Diaconate
"Without the Bishop's Appeal, it would be difficult to have a quality formation process or to provide the support services needed for the Diaconate program," said Deacon Paul Grimm, Director of the Diaconate Department.

Gifts to the Bishop's Appeal also help Fr. Michael Seis in the Diocese's mission in Elias Piña attend to the physical and spiritual needs of the communities he serves in the Dominican Republic.
These gifts also assist the work of Catholic Charities, and the Diocesan Departments of Education; Stewardship and Pastoral Services; Evangelization, Living Justice and Worship -- and in the lives of the more than 300 people who joined the Church in Northeastern Wisconsin at the Easter Vigil in their parishes through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults under Clare Sturm, Diocesan Director of Worship.
This year's theme is "Renewed in Christ." The goal for the 2012 Bishop's Appeal is $5 million.
Appeal Helps in Many Ways
"Imagine being able to help a family heal from the loss of a child or help our young people realize that Jesus walks with them and loves them. These are just two ways your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal makes a difference," said Bishop David Ricken.
Ministries receiving funds raised by the Bishop’s Appeal include:
- Mental Health Counseling
- Education
- Stewardship and Pastoral Services
- Evangelization, Living Justice and Worship
- Budget Counseling
- Youth and Young Adult Ministry
