Thousands participate in pilgrimage for Assumption at Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help™
Thousands of Catholics celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary August 15 at the annual spiritual pilgrimage at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help™ in Champion.
Bishop Robert J. Banks of the Diocese of Green Bay presided at the special outdoor Mass and rosary procession at the Shrine, near Champion, northeast of Green Bay.
The Feast of the Assumption commemorates the taking of Mary’s soul and body into heaven at the end of her life. The feast dates back to at least the seventh century when its celebration was already established in Jerusalem and Rome and is one of the most solemn Marian feasts. Catholics revere Mary because she is the mother of Jesus Christ.
