Diocese Invites Young Adults To Participate in Pilgrimage to Rio in 2013
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Sept. 14, 2012) -- The Diocese of Green Bay is inviting young adults to join its pilgrimage to Rio de Janeiro July 19-29, 2013, for World Youth Day with Pope Francis I.
World Youth Day will be July 23-28, 2013. The theme is: "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Mt 28:19).
Pilgrimage Sites
The Diocesan pilgrimage includes stops in Sao Paulo, Aparecida, and Paraty, in addition to Rio De Janeiro. Pilgrimage highlights include:
Sao Paulo
- Luz Monastery (Monastery of the Light)
- Tomb of Antonio de Sant'Ana Galvao (the only Brazilian-born saint)
- The Sacred Art Museum
Aparecida
- Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron of Brazil and fourth most popular Marian shrine in the world
Paraty (a preserved Portuguese colonial and Brazilian imperial town on the Costa Verde)
- Chapel of St. Rita
- Museum of Sacred Art
- Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Benedict (built and used by African slaves)
- Church of Our Lady of Remedies
Rio De Janeiro
- World Youth Day
- Corcovado Mountain (site of the colossal Christ the Redeemer sculpture)
- Tijuca Forest (a mountainous hand-planted rainforest within the city)
Cost/Information
Cost of the pilgrimage per person is $4,499.00 (single), $4069.00 (twin), or $3979.00 (triple).
