"We know that your talents, and those of other young adults, can enrich the Church and can be a sign of God's presence in society. We invite you to share them with us and to become part of a welcoming community for other young adults as well. Not too long ago our Holy Father spoke of your importance to the life of the Church: 'The Church needs your energies, your enthusiasm, your ideals, in order to make the Gospel of life penetrate the fabric of society, transforming people's hearts and the structures of society in order to create a civilization of true justice and love.'" (From the preface of "Sons and Daughters of the Light.")
Read "Sons and Daughters of the Light," a national plan for pastoral ministry to and with young adults, written by the U.S. Bishops' Committee on the Laity after wide consultation with dioceses, national organizations, and young adults, and approved by the bishops on Nov. 12, 1996.
Young adults differ in many ways from previous generations. That poses both challenges and opportunities for the Church and for young adults as they find their place in the Church. Julianne Stanz, recently appointed Director of the new Diocesan Department of New Evangelization, recommends reading about the issues in "Multi-Parishional" Young Adults -- The Nomads of Parish Life
