"We know that your talents, and those of other young adults, can enrich the Church and can be a sign of God's presence in society. We invite you to share them with us and to become part of a welcoming community for other young adults as well. Not too long ago our Holy Father spoke of your importance to the life of the Church: "The Church needs your energies, your enthusiasm, your ideals, in order to make the Gospel of life penetrate the fabric of society, transforming people's hearts and the structures of society in order to create a civilization of true justice and love." (From the preface of "Sons and Daughters of the Light.")

Read "Sons and Daughters of the Light," a national plan for pastoral ministry to and with young adults, written the U.S. Bishops' Committee on the Laity after wide consultation with dioceses, national organizations, and young adults, and approved by the bishops on Nov. 12, 1996.

Young adults are different in many ways from previous generations. That poses both challenges and opportunities for the Church and for young adults as they find their place in the Church. Bishop Ricken to accompany diocesan young adults to World Youth Day 2011

Bishop David Ricken is excited to announce that he will be accompanying the young adults from the Diocese of Green Bay to World Youth Day on August 13-22, 2011, in Madrid, Spain. Bishop Ricken said he sees the pilgrimage as an opportunity for young Catholics to be united in their faith walk.

International World Youth Day is a week-long spiritual journey where pilgrims from all over the world unite to share their faith. The week spent in fellowship and catechesis culminates with a vigil and closing Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI.

Other World Youth Day events include Feast of the Assumption of Mary, opening Mass with Cardinal Rouco of Madrid at Plaza de Cibeles, catechesis sessions, Stations of the Cross at Paseo de la Castellana, and a pilgrimage across Madrid to Cuatro Vientos for the evening vigil. Daily youth festival events include prayer, song, concerts, drama, and liturgy.

World Youth Day began in 1986 when Pope John Paul II invited young people from all over the world to participate in a pilgrimage to Rome. Since then it has been held in Argentina ('87), Spain ('89), Poland ('91), U.S. ('93), Philippines ('95), France ('97), Italy ('00), Canada ('02), Germany ('05) and Australia ('08). It is estimated that between 500,000 and one million people participate in World Youth Day.

The Diocese of Green Bay has reserved 40 tickets to the International World Youth Day in Madrid. Only 20 tickets remain! Trip accommodations and payment plans are available. Please note that this trip is for those 21 and above. For more information contact Julianne Donlon, (920) 272-8270 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. newburstKurt-Denison"I Am" -- Kurt Denison encourages reflection on life’s deeper realities just as St. Francis, a follower of Jesus, searched for his true identity deeply and lovingly within and around him. Rather than draw our sense of self from the things that we do or accomplish, Kurt says we need to seek the love that animates us all. Kurt was born and raised on the west coast of Michigan. He learned to play piano at age 6, and later learned saxophone and guitar. His songwriting reflects a humble nature, and shares uplifting thoughts. He has written, recorded, and released the albums "SUN" (2009) and "Surface" (2010) and is dedicating all the proceeds from his latest album to Friends of Grand Rapids parks.
