Catholic Foundation Names New Board President at Close of 15th Anniversary Year
Distributes More Than $3.3 Million in Grants This Year
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Aug. 12, 2013) -- The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Green Bay is pleased to announce that Paul Schneider has been named the new Catholic Foundation board president. He was selected in May by the board to serve a three-year term. He succeeds Mary Schaupp.
Schneider is director of Schneider National and a graduate of Northwestern University -- Kellogg School of Management. He previously served as the Catholic Foundation board director and chair of the Investment Committee of the Catholic Foundation.
"We're excited about Paul Schneider being president," said Cindi Brawner, Executive Director of the Catholic Foundation. "Paul is bright, articulate and insightful. His years of serving on the board and the investment committee have prepared him well."
Bishop Banks Directed Founding
This announcement comes as the Catholic Foundation concludes a year of celebrating its 15th anniversary. The Catholic Foundation was founded in April 1997 under the direction of Bishop Robert Banks to encourage financial stewardship and generosity by providing a faith-based avenue for giving. The plan has been to become known and trusted through the Diocese of Green Bay as the preferred, faith-based foundation for giving.
In the past 15 years, the Catholic Foundation has grown to more than $60 million while establishing a $1 million Affordable Housing Institute, nearly 200 parish funds to support parishes, schools, facilities, ministries and other causes, and a $1 million tuition assistance endowment.
Bishop Ricken Grateful to Founder
"I am grateful to Bishop Banks and the founders of the Catholic Foundation for their wisdom and vision, and to the current board of directors for continuing and growing the Foundation," Bishop David L. Ricken said at the anniversary celebration. "I would also like to thank all of the fundholders and donors who place their confidence and trust in the Catholic Foundation and those who continue their lives of daily stewardship by making a provision to leave a legacy in their estate plans. The impact of their gifts may not ever be known by them, but the parishes, schools, organizations and individuals who directly benefit will be stronger and better because of the donors’ faith-filled generosity."
In addition to promoting endowment funds to benefit Catholic organizations, the Catholic Foundation also conducts the annual Bishop's Appeal to benefit the ministries and services of the Diocese of Green Bay. It also runs all of the diocesan fund-raising campaigns, including the Seminarian Collection.
Aims for Continued Growth
"As we look forward to the next 15 years, the Catholic Foundation hopes to exceed the $100 million in assets milestone, but more significant than that is the good that has been accomplished through the Foundation distributions," said Brawner. "They include our Catholic school children receiving tuition assistance, our parishes become more engaged and alive in their faith through programs supported by the Foundation and an increase in the number of seminarians."
Throughout the years, the Catholic Foundation has distributed more than $19 million in grants. This year alone, in March 2013, the Foundation awarded more than $3.3 million in grants. Grants were given in the areas of tuition assistance, catechism and prayer books, Vacation Bible School, religious education materials, events for senior citizens, faith formation, mentoring and training, World Youth Day trips, retreats and conferences, lifelong catechesis and evangelization.
