Appointments Announced by the Chancery Office

coat-of-armsGREEN BAY, Wis. (Aug. 5, 2013) -- The Chancery office of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay has announced the following appointments:

Definitions of Parish Leadership

Working definitions of parish leadership positions, Diocese of Green Bay, May 2013:

Pastor -- A priest who shepherds or leads the parish entrusted to him, exercising pastoral care in the community entrusted to him under the authority of the diocesan bishop. The pastor carries out the duties of teaching, sanctifying and governing, with the cooperation of other priests or deacons and the assistance of lay members of the Christian faithful.

Administrator -- A priest who is bound by the same duties as a pastor. Often, an administrator is either appointed for a shorter period of time (perhaps during a time of transition), or is appointed as administrator until such a time as the bishop may name the administrator as pastor (especially for a more recently ordained priest).

Pastoral Leader -- The person appointed by the bishop to participate in the exercise of pastoral care of a parish when there is not a priest available to serve as pastor or administrator. The pastoral leader may be a deacon, religious sister or brother, or a lay woman or man who has a master’s degree in theology or pastoral studies, and at least five years of pastoral experience, among other qualifications.

Priest Moderator -- The priest who is endowed with the power and faculties of a pastor to supervise the pastoral care in a parish served by a pastoral leader.

Priest Celebrant -- A priest who is appointed to celebrate the sacraments in a parish led by a pastoral leader.

Pastoral Coordinator -- The person who serves in a role similar to that of a pastoral leader, but under the direction of a priest administrator.

Appleton -- Reverend Msgr. John Dewane to Temporary Administrator at St. Thomas More Parish, Appleton while Reverend James Lucas is on Sabbatical, September 30, 2013 to January 10, 2014.

Brillion -- Reverend Timothy Brandt to Pastor at Holy Family Parish, Brillion from Administrator at Holy Family Parish, Brillion effective July 20, 2013.

Redgranite/Poy Sippi -- Deacon Robert Precourt to Deacon and Pastoral Leader at St. Mark Parish, Redgranite and Sacred Heart of Jesus, Poy Sippi, effective August 24, 2013 from Deacon at St. Mary Magdalene, Waupaca.

Redgranite/Poy Sippi -- Reverend James Jugenheimer to Priest Moderator at St. Mark Parish, Redgranite and Sacred Heart of Jesus, Poy Sippi, effective August 24, 2013 and Temporary Administrator at St. Mark Parish, Redgranite and Sacred Heart of Jesus, Poy Sippi, effective August 10, 2013 to August 23, 2013.

Redgranite/Poy Sippi -- Reverend Jason Blahnik to Priest Celebrant at St. Mark Parish, Redgranite and Sacred Heart of Jesus, Poy Sippi, effective August 10, 2013. This appointment is in addition to his appointment at Newman Center, Oshkosh.

Rosiere/Lincoln, Brussels -- Reverend Frank Sherry, CPM, to Priest Celebrant at St. Peter and St. Hubert Parish, Rosiere-Lincoln, and St. Francis and St. Mary Parish, Brussels, effective July 1, 2013.

Shiocton/Stephensville -- Reverend Michael Morrison, SJ, to Priest Celebrant at St. Denis Parish, Shiocton and St. Patrick Parish, Stephensville effective July 1, 2013.

Sturgeon Bay/Institute -- Reverend Robert Stegmann to Pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Sturgeon Bay and SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Institute effective August 16, 2013 from Pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Wautoma and Administrator at St. Paul Parish, Plainfied and Priest Moderator at St. Mark Parish, Redgranite and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Poy Sippi.
