Diocese of Green Bay Announces Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Grant Winners

Diocese-Green-Bay-LogoGREEN BAY, Wis. (July 18, 2017) -- The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay is happy to announce the 2017 Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl Grant Award Winners. The diocese is a co-sponsor of the annual CRS Rice Bowl collection held every year during Lent.

"Through our parishioner's prayers, generosity, and sacrifice, we are able to provide assistance through literacy programs, translation services, and emergency relief within our diocese and throughout the world," said Eric Weydt, Catholic Social Justice Coordinator for the Diocese of Green Bay and diocesan program coordinator of CRS Rice Bowl.

Sixteen Grants Awarded

This year's recipients are:

  • EVA Mission, Inc. - Assistance to the Needy
  • House of Hope Green Bay, Inc. - Interpretation, Translation and Shelter Services

  • Day by Day Warming Shelter, Inc. - Resource Coordination Program
  • St. Vincent de Paul Appleton - St. Vincent de Paul Appleton Voucher Program
  • Green Bay East High School - Strategies for Engaging Somali Families
  • Green Bay Preble High School - Preble Pride Hispanic Family Engagement
  • LEAVEN - Emergency Financial Assistance for Immigrants & Refugees
  • Habitat for Humanity - Hmong/Spanish Translation and Interpretation

Local Grants Total $13,000

CRS Rice Bowl is a program of prayer, fasting, learning, and giving to help address the challenges of hunger and poverty around the world. Twenty-five percent of the money collected through diocesan parishes is reserved for local use. This year, $13,000 was awarded to agencies at the local level to meet the basic material needs of immigrant and refugee people in northeastern Wisconsin.
